In March 2020, surprisingly, Vin Diesel announced that The Last Witch Hunter 2 is in the works at Lionsgate. Add to that Vin Diesel’s busy schedule, a sequel being made was certainly a very bleak possibility.
However, the poor box-office numbers of the first film cast doubts over the sequel being made. On June 17, 2015, Vin Diesel announced on his Facebook page that an untitled sequel to The Last Witch Hunter was being planned. The Last Witch Hunter was directed by Breck Eisner and distributed by Summit Entertainment. A sequel has reportedly been in the works since 2015. Vin Diesel is Kaulder, an immortal witch hunter who has spent centuries tracking down those who practice evil magic. The film revolves around an immortal hunter who hunts witches in modern day New York. However, the protagonist of the film, Vin Diesel, has a knack of reviving seemingly dead franchises something that he has done splendidly with xXx and Riddick. And rightly so, he might be doing the same for a third time this time with his 2015 film The Last Witch Hunter.
Diesel was last seen in his comic book adaptation of Bloodshot, which hit theaters in early March and has had an early VOD release due to the coronavirus pandemic cutting its theatrical run short. The film got mostly negative reviews from critics and grossed out at a mere $147 million, against a production budget of around $90 million. Actor Vin Diesel has dropped a heavy hint to his fans that The Last Witch Hunter 2 is currently being written in quarantine. Given the poor box-office performance of The Last Witch Hunter, it was unlikely that there would be a sequel to the film.
